The History of the Hungarian Bible Society
The Hungarian Bible Council was established in 1949 by the Reformed, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist and the Orthodox Church in Hungary. The Bible Council was entrusted with the work of publication and distribution of the Hungarian Bible by the British and Foreign Bible Society. Owning to the help and support of the member churches of the Bible Council, the interest in the Bible and the quantity of purchased Bibles, which recently have shown considerable increase, exceeded the possibilities of Bible distribution. Due to favourable historical changes, the Hungarian Bible Council provided Bibles in constantly growing numbers for Hungarians outside the territory of Hungary, too. The Hungarian Bible Society Foundation was established by the member churches of the Hungarian Bible Council on the 15 November, 1991 in order to ensure financial support for their projects.
