Former projects
The Hungarian Bible Society's fundraising activity between 2001 and 2004In the Spring of 2001 we announced the very first fundraising programme with the clear aim of distributing 500-500 copies of Bible in areas worst affected by the recent flooding both in Hungary and in the Sub-Carpathian region among those who lost nearly everything including homes and belongings. This first project of fundraising helped us in building up a database based on the feedback and responses we got.
In the Autumn of 2001 the next project supported the publishing of the four illustrated Gospel tastefully and nicely done by minority artist, a gipsy person. It was first shown at a Bible exhibition and received much recognition both from the church and from outside the church. More than one million Forints had been collected from almost 400 supporters.
In the Spring of 2002 we supported the work of the prison-mission from the financial help we received from our member churches. The amount on the account of the HBS in addition to the 1% help of income-tax offering amounted to a large sum of 801,154 Forints. As a result 524 copies of the Bible were received by those serving their prison sentence.
In the Autumn of 2002 we aimed to help the mission-work of the churches located in large housing estates (among many block of flats mainly). For this purpose we received 473,400 Forints. This was the first time we changed in the method of distribution: instead of distributing Bibles we entrusted the persons in charge of the missionary outreach in each of our member churches with using the previously set amount to buy HBS publications (including Bibles). Ever since we have been following this principle.
In the Spring of 2003 the following organisations received help and benefited from our fundraising project: the hospital-missions of our member churches and the "Válaszút" (Crossroads) Foundation of the Reformed Church that deals with people in various forms additions. We supported these with 400,000 Forints.
In the second part of 2003 once again we turned to our gipsy brethren by supporting the gipsy-mission of our member churches. We gave Bibles to gipsy schools with the help of our colleagues. For this purpose we raised 651,900 Forints. This amount was distributed in the following manner in within the gipsy-mission of our member churches:
The following churches received 6,519 Forints each: Evangéliumi Pünkösdi Közösség, Keresztyén Testvér Gyülekezetek Képviselete, Szabadkeresztyén Gyülekezet, Élő Isten Gyülekezete snd the Evangéliumi Testvérközösség.
In the Spring of 2004 the fundraising aimed to help the Hungarian Church schools that are located over the border in Transylvania. The supporters gave 703,800 Forints. The HBS board meeting on the 9th of September 2004 added to this amount the 1% help of income-tax offering that amounted to 161,089 Forints. In addition to this the HBS gave 135.111 Forints from its own resources making that total amount to a round figure of 1 million Forints. This 1 million Forints served to help us distribute Bibles and other HBS publications in Hungarian Church schools that are located over the border in Transylvania. The distribution was done by our partner, the Romanian Bible Society.
Our fundraising project continues.
